Partial Dentures:

PLEASE READ ALL THIS MATERIAL BEFORE YOU SEE THE DOCTOR

The enclosed information and dental facts will help you make a decision about your health.

All living things are dynamic (constantly changing) and this means that as we become older, each day brings small changes in all parts of our body, including our mouth with its supporting structures. Today, dentures are made of hard, non-giving material that does not change. No way has yet been devised to construct a denture that will change with the mouth over an extended period of time.

1. Partial denture require more dental hygiene. Contrary to old wives tales, partial dentures DO NOT cause tooth decay---only neglect and inadequate care of the natural teeth causes it.

2.DO NOT leave a partial denture out of your mouth for any length of time (other than at night). The abutment teeth will microscopically migrate, and the framework will no longer fit. PLEASE DO NOT ask the Doctor to make the framework fit---it is impossible. The only alternative is to start the partial over again. This will be done at the expense of the patient.

3. If you have come to us with some natural teeth requesting a partial denture, we may suggest to you that first you have your teeth cleaned, x-rayed and fully examined. We will not build a new partial denture on unsound, unhealthy teeth. Our registered dental hygienist will clean your teeth and advise you about home care. Please pay attention to her advice. She is here to help you. We will only construct the partial denture when all the dental treatment for the remaining, surrounding teeth is complete. Any fillings, crowns, root canals, or extractions will be done by Dr. Cheslock or our associate dentist Dr. Daniel Wahba. After all the treatment is complete you will placed on our regular recall system according to the advice of the hygienist, so that the treatment we have delivered can be maintained.

We attempt to make you look as natural as we are able. So just remember that the better job we do, the less anyone will recognize that you have been here.

Forgive us for making you read this website, but it is much more cost effective. We are able to keep our prices much more reasonable. Another reason is that we have our own dental laboratory. We think of ourselves as good business people who have effective cost controls, etc. When you leave our office, you take only our service(s) with you, and our credibility depends on that service and only on that service.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information. I'm sure that it will benefit you or the person you brought to us for who's treatment you are responsible.

Yours in good health,
Anthony R. Cheslock, DDS
